Small businesses are seeking faster and more reliable broadband services

British companies are increasingly seeking faster and more reliable broadband services and therefore Ofcom has plans to conduct a business review of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) broadband market, which will run until 2019.

The news comes after recent data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed an upward trend in Britain’s growing dependence and reliance on online technology.

According to the ONS, there are currently a record 5.4million SMEs in Britain – and such firms are growing at a rate of 3 per cent every year.

A separate study carried out by financial software developed SAF revealed that 100 per cent of UK SMEs rely on social media in order to reach out to new customers and clients – and that 79 per cent of firms believe that they need reliable technology in order to boost their expansion.

Leading telecoms providers such as Talk Talk have recently come under scrutiny from Ofcom after data revealed that Talk Talk was officially the UK’s ‘most complained about’ broadband provider.

Ofcom found that UK customers were making approximately 300 complaints per day to broadband providers such as TalkTalk, EE, BT and Vodafone.

Misleading advertising and slow broadband speeds were the most common complaints received.
